On Thursday, 13 February 2025, the National Construction Training Campus at Mount Lucas proudly hosted the official launch of LOETB’s MMC Skills Pathway — a milestone event attended by Minister James Lawless, industry leaders, educators, and key stakeholders from across the construction sector.
This innovative training suite is the latest step in LOETB’s commitment to leading the transition to green and digital construction through Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). The new MMC Skills Pathway includes a comprehensive suite of online and accredited programmes designed to
raise awareness, upskill workers, and support the evolving needs of the construction sector — all aligned with the Government’s Housing for All and Climate Action strategies.
Opening remarks were delivered by Joe Cunningham, Chief Executive of LOETB, who emphasised the collaborative spirit behind the initiative:
“The suite of programmes being launched today is further evidence of our commitment to leading the FET sector’s green and digital construction agenda. The programmes specifically respond to skills gaps in the sector and enhance our capacity to meet national climate action targets.”
Minister Lawless officially launched the MMC Skills Pathway, noting the vital role of Further Education and Training in addressing Ireland’s construction challenges. The event also featured a lively panel discussion chaired by Padraig Boland (FET Manager, Strategic Projects) and included perspectives from Vision Built, MosArt, MMC Ireland, and DFHERIS, as well as powerful learner input from Mark Rogan, a learner on LOETB’s traineeship with Vision Built.
Key programmes in the new suite include:
- MMC Essentials (general and public sector-focused)
- Digital Technologies in MMC (including BIM)
- Sustainability in MMC and the Built Environment
- Zero Emission Buildings (ZEB) Awareness
- District Heating & Overheating in Buildings
- Solar PV Design Guide
- Accredited programmes in BIM, AutoCAD, Tekla, and Offsite Construction
Designed with flexibility in mind, all programmes are available online with evening or weekend options and provide digital badges or CPD points. Many also offer stackable microcredentials towards full BTEC qualifications.
This launch also marks LOETB’s progress in developing a new MMC Apprenticeship in collaboration with TU Dublin, with a Level 5 Operative Traineeship already underway with Vision Built. These initiatives form a key part of LOETB’s long-term vision to support the construction sector with agile, industry-driven training.
